Q. How did you know you were ready for an MBA?

A. While there can be people who are very young and get into school based on their GMATs alone, if you are not one of them you need to think harder about an MBA. It is wrong to say you can do your MBA anytime. It is not about the number of years of experience but what you learnt from it.

For me, I saw a divergence between my career path and my expectations. Had I continued, I would have been stuck in job that is not best for me. So an MBA. Continue reading

Third BITS 5K Run a Success

Written by Karthikeyan Vijayakumar

We had over 150 BITSians hitting the roads on Nov 6th 2011, running/walking/crawling 5 km at the 3rd BITS 5K run. More than the run, it was the meeting and the laccha after, that were the highlight with BITSians across batches sharing their BITS stories, connecting with BITSians across generations. This group also raised over $500 for the BITS Connect 2.0 project.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts from a big group of people.
  • Thanks to the 150+ runners who ran on Nov 6th – the event happened because of your energy and passion for BITS , Laccha & Fitness (in that order!) Continue reading

“With a little help from my friends” – BC Krishna’s Story into Entrepreneurship

Often, the advice given to first time entrepreneurs is to find a good mentor.

BC Krishna, a BITSian serial entrepreneur who is now on his third stint as the founder of a company understands the importance of mentors.

BC Krishna has a problem. He is bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. His latest venture, Mineral Tree is a secure payment gateway for SMEs. Throughout his career he has been driven to solve large scale problems using technology and he seems to be pretty good at it: 3 companies, all three back by influential VCs, one acquired and 1 running strong and the latest one being hailed as a disruptive payment gateway solution. But he also admits that one thing that entrepreneurs need is having someone to talk to, especially if that person has prior entrepreneurial experience. And that is the story that NYT focused on when they covered BC’s start-up recently, which we suggest you read. Continue reading

BIT2BSCHOOL goes to B-School

“So, what are you doing now?” asks my NRI uncle who is home after a long time.

“Engineering, uncle. In BITS, Pilani!” I reply, quite proudly.

“Oh, okay. Why not the government colleges? Where is BITS, Pilani?”

I am dejected in a way. Here is a person who was actually born in this country, spent more than twenty years here, but has never heard of BITS, Pilani. “May be it’s just him”, I tell myself.

That was almost 7 years ago. Though BITS, Pilani as a brand, is now quite popular in India, we can’t help but notice that a lot of people abroad, especially in the b-school circle, either haven’t heard of BITS Pilani or don’t perceive it as a premier technical institute in India. A lot of admissions consultants too seem to be voicing the same sentiment.
